Tax Reprieve Given Initial Approval

But state Rep. Adam Hasner, R-Delray Beach, who supported the tax payment extension, said it creates a way for government to help residents still recovering from storm costs.

Students Warned Against Hazing

Hundreds of fraternity brothers, sorority sisters and athletes jammed Florida Atlantic University’s student center Wednesday night to learn that if they ever become involved in a hazing that results in death or serious injury, they could go to jail. “Florida has the toughest anti-hazing law in the country,” Rep. Adam Hasner, R-Delray Beach, told the crowd. He should know, he co-sponsored the Chad Meredith Act, named for a University of Miami freshman who drowned in a campus lake while trying to join a fraternity in 2001.

Two Palm Beach County legislators have filed a bill for the upcoming special session to let hurricane-stricken counties extend the deadlines for early payment discounts on property taxes. Sen. Jeff Atwater, R-North Palm Beach, and Rep. Adam Hasner, R-Delray Beach, have filed proposals in their chambers to enable property owners to get two extra months to file their taxes and still receive discounts.
