Gov. Charlie Crist Weighs Bill to Help Cities Go Green

“It’s a no-mandate, no taxpayer subsidy that allows people to finance energy efficiency and other clean technologies, like solar, and save energy costs,” said Rep. Adam Hasner, R-Delray Beach, the House majority leader who cosponsored the bill with Sen. Michael Bennett, R-Bradenton. … “This is one of the most innovative public policy initiatives we’ve addressed in Florida for years for renewable energy. Local governments see this as a way for them to help residents and create jobs.”

Crist to Call Back Legislators to Consider Offshore Drilling Ban

House Republican Leader Adam Hasner, R-Boca Raton, said “a call for a special session is purely political.” He noted that state law already bans drilling in state waters and “no one is trying to change that.” … “That is transparent political posturing by Charlie Crist,” he said. “Right now, the issue is protecting our environment and protecting our economy. A constitutional amendment is about Charlie Crist protecting his political future.” … A special session costs about $40,000 a day, to bring legislators and their staffs to Tallahassee.

Crist Wields Mighty Veto Pen

Florida’s veto season, which follows the end of the Legislature’s annual lawmaking session, comes against a never-before-seen political backdrop. Last week, Crist dropped his lifelong affiliation with the Republican Party, which runs the state Legislature. He’s running for the U.S. Senate as a no-party candidate. … “Charlie Crist always talked about having optimism. Right now, the only power Charlie Crist has is negative, and it’s in the form of veto threats,” said House Republican Leader Adam Hasner, R-Boca Raton. “My belief is, any vetoes he makes are going to be based more on politics and how it will affect his election than it will be based on policy.”

State Law Banning Pill Mills Heads to Crist

According to a news release from State Rep. Adam Hasner’s office, pain clinics in South Florida attract patients from all over the country. More oxycodone is distributed in Florida than in any other state. The top 25 pain management clinics for dispensing prescription pain relievers are in Florida, and the 50 doctors who dispense the most oxycodone in the country are in Florida, including 33 in Broward County. A major factor contributing to the statistics are Florida’s “dispensing practitioners” who have special approval to dispense drugs directly from their offices. In 2006, they handed out 85 percent of all oxycodone distributed by doctors nationally.

EDITORIAL: ‘Fair Districts’ Proposal is Stealth Attempt By Left to Snatch Power

Bottom line: FDF is spending millions to control Florida elections. Unions and other FDF contributors hired people from all over the country to stake out municipal buildings and Florida libraries to sell their deceptive amendments. These people are paid professionals, bounty hunters, who receive money for each signature they collect. State Rep. Adam Hasner has said of FDF: “It is a stealth agenda funded by the left to do in the courts what they can’t do at the ballot box.”

BLOG: Innovative Energy Bill Sails Through Florida House

HB 7179 by the Energy & Utilities Policy Committee passed after amendments that would extend the state solar energy rebate program were rejected. The bill establishes the Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program, which allows homeowners to repay the loans with non-ad valorem assessments on their property tax bills. The bill has support from environmental groups and was pushed by House Majority Leader Adam Hasner, R-Boca Raton. “The biggest challenge most Florida homeowners face is paying the upfront costs to retrofit their homes with energy improvements,” Hasner, R-Delray Beach, said in a statement. “PACE presents a common sense, innovative policy initiative that will remove this significant financial burden for homeowners and allow them to buy solar panels and implement energy efficiency in their homes.”
