With 2010 shaping up as one of the most wide-open election seasons in Florida history, the only question surrounding young, ambitious and term-limited state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner has been which higher office he’d seek.
When the Boca Raton Republican, 39, recently ruled out a run for Congress, it was considered evidence that he was focusing on a bid for state Senate, attorney general or chief financial officer.
But Hasner told the Politics column over the weekend that he doesn’t plan to run for any office in 2010 while his wife, veteran GOP operative Jillian Hasner, manages the California gubernatorial campaign of former eBay CEO Meg Whitman.
Jillian Hasner managed George W. Bush’s 2000 Florida presidential campaign and worked on Jeb Bush’s gubernatorial races.
The Whitman gig is “a tremendous opportunity,” Adam Hasner said. “Jillian and I are a team, and I am proud of her work. She has always supported my efforts, and I support her 100 percent. While I do not intend to be on the ballot in 2010, I will continue to be actively engaged on the important issues and also working to re-energize the Republican Party.”
